A Weekend in Iowa

Happy Memorial Day! Despite the cold, rainy weather, we had a great holiday weekend in Des Moines. We left on Friday morning, and stayed with our good friend, Sara, at her beautiful new house! She was a fantastic hostess, greeting the kids with gifts (she won Ella over quickly!). On Saturday afternoon, Grandma and Papa C. came down to have lunch with us and then drove the kids back to their house for the night, which allowed us to meet up with more college friends for a night on the town. Ella and Jack had a wonderful, albeit short, visit at Grandma and Papa's, getting to spend time with Great Grandma and Grandpa P., and on Sunday we met them in Ames for the hand-off and to visit Reiman Gardens. We ended up getting home late last night, and spent today running errands and taking it easy.

Apparently Jack was amused by the story Ella was reading to him.

Look how he watches her. Oh, the things she'll teach him...

At least she didn't pee in it.

Sara welcomed us with thoughtful gifts, what a great hostess!

Jack made himself at home immediately.

Grandma C. easily entertained Jack with his stuffed zebra.

Ella was fascinated by the butterflies!

Jack is getting close to sitting up!

My friend, Amy, stopped by for a visit while she was in town!

I'm not sure who is more excited by this new toy!

The Crazy Cousins

It's not even 8:00 on Sunday night, and both kids have already been in bed for nearly an hour. I guess the fun-filled weekend with their cousins, Ava and Reid, wore them out! Parks; the zoo; playing with Jeff and Kristin's puppy, Pitch; and a slumber party - all packed into two days. Ella was so excited for their visit, and talked about it all week. Now that she's a little older, the three of them play so well together. Ella even spent the night at Uncle Jeff and Aunt Kristin's house with her cousins, what a big girl! In addition to the family fun, Ella went to work with Daddy on Friday morning. She had been asking to leave with him for a few mornings, so he thought she'd enjoy seeing where he spends his days. They took the bus and train, made a stop at Starbucks, and then met his co-workers and hung out in his office until I came to get her mid-morning. As for Jack, he's very excited about eating these days, and so far has tried - and liked - oatmeal, avocado, and banana. He's also getting more and more active, and has even started laughing at his sister and her crazy antics.

Yum, avocado!

He can't get enough of his toes!

She needed to pump some milk for her baby.

Friends Jackie and Kyle came for dinner and met Jack.

Ella's buddy, Morgan, turned two!

She was more excited about the birthday cake than anything else.

Al fresco lunch with friends, Natasha and Jonah.

This is what eating out with a baby and a toddler looks like.

So excited to go to work with Daddy!

Playing in his office.

Riding the El. She even took her 'pack pack' (backpack).

Just chillin.

What a fun group!
